Priyank Agarwal from Exicom: Leveraging European Insights for the Indian Market
Exicom, which produced around 40,000 AC and 2,000 DC chargers in 2023, is setting up a new facility to boost its output to 180,000 AC and 30,000 DC chargers annually. "We are significant players," noted Agarwal, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development.
The company aims to broaden its horizons. "In the last year and a half, we’ve focused on expanding beyond India," Agarwal shared. "The acquisition of Tritium aligns perfectly with this goal."
The takeover, announced in early August, includes Tritium's Tennessee factory and its development center in Brisbane, which had halted production due to financial challenges in late 2023. Agarwal envisions Exicom becoming a global solutions provider and aims to rank among the top three players within three years.
Exicom is particularly interested in Tritium's liquid cooling technology, contrasting with its current air cooling system. "With Tritium’s challenges behind us, we see a chance to revive it as 'Tritium 2.0.'"
Additionally, Exicom's recent partnership with Hubject, a roaming provider, focuses on enhancing the Indian market. Agarwal emphasized, "This collaboration is crucial for our growth in India, rather than just for hardware manufacturing."
While India's EV charging landscape lags behind Europe, Agarwal anticipates rapid progress, fueled by supportive government policies and economic incentives for electric fleets. "By 2030, we expect over two million electric cars on the roads and a twelvefold increase in charging stations, reaching 100,000," he projected.
Agarwal also sees value in learning from European experiences. "We can adopt their reliability standards and efficient service models," he stated, mentioning the implementation of remote diagnostics to streamline maintenance.
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of aligning with international regulations on safety and plug-and-charge technology, preparing Exicom to adapt swiftly once these standards are adopted in India.
