Jio-bp Launches 5,000th Charging Station in India
Jio-bp has officially opened its 500th Jio-bp Pulse charging station at the Jio World Centre in the upscale BKC area of Mumbai, Maharashtra. This new addition brings the company's electric vehicle (EV) charging network to a total of 5,000 charging points, marking a significant achievement.
As a subsidiary of BP in India, Jio-bp has been rapidly expanding its EV charging infrastructure, increasing the number of charging points by 285% within a year—from 1,300 to 5,000. Recently, the company also launched South India’s largest public EV charging station in Bengaluru, located near the busy Kempegowda International Airport, which includes 169 charging points on its own.
The Jio-bp Pulse network boasts an impressive 95% of its stations as fast chargers, the highest percentage in India. A recent report from S&P Global, citing CEO Harish Mehta, noted that nearly 40% of the chargers have outputs exceeding 60 kW.
Jio-bp claims to be the first in the sector to introduce high-capacity 480 kW chargers. With a notable uptime of 96%, it has positioned itself as the most dependable EV charging network in the country. The company strategically places its charging facilities in corporate parks, shopping malls, hotels, public parking areas, and roadside amenities.
Jio-bp is a brand under Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML), a joint venture focused on fuels and mobility between Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) of India and BP from the UK. RIL holds a 51% stake, while BP possesses the remaining 49%.
In 2020, BP invested $1 billion (around €895 million) for its minority interest in RBML and has committed over $12 billion (approximately €11 billion) to the energy sector in India to date. "India is undeniably the fastest-growing energy nation globally, and we are fortunate to have a strong partner like Reliance to advance with," said BP CEO Murray Auchincloss during the inauguration of the 500th station and the 5,000th charging point.
