Warrington Borough Council in the North West of England has installed 56 charging points for electric vehicles at the Time Square multi-storey car park. The installation is part of the council’s Air Quality Action Plan.
The Warrington Council claims the new charge park that the one of the largest arrays of charging points at any one location in the country. More important, the initiative is a significant step to encourage the uptake of low emission electric vehicles in the town centre as part of the authority’s long-term commitment to reducing pollution.
Now, the council is asking residents to support Clean Air Day – and the wider work to reduce pollution - by thinking about what small lifestyle changes they could make.
The council is also about to launch a new website and raising awareness about air quality in the borough. It will include interactive maps, a search-by-property function, information about Air Quality Management and Smoke Control Areas, and access to all the air pollution data monitored by the council at more than 30 locations across the borough.
Overall, there are now a dozen public electric vehicle charging locations in Warrington. Moreover, all new homes in Warrington with off road parking must now have charging points.

• Owning an electric car will save you over 70% in fuel costs and it help to improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions.
• At present, the cost of buy the electric vehicles are slightly more to buy than the equivalent petrol, but the government provides grants of up to £3,500. So costs are falling and electric vehicles are predicted to be cheaper than petrol ones by year 2024. The government will ban the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040.
• Now finding an electric vehicle charging point is getting easier and easier. There are now over 6,000 charging locations in the UK, with more than a dozen public charging locations in Warrington. This includes the 60 new charging points at the Time Square multi-story car park.
• Charging at home is also easier now. All new homes build in Warrington with off road parking must now have charging points. For existing ev homeowners, government grants are available of up to £500 for the installation of a charging point.
